First — engagement sessions are completely optional. No guilt trip, no pressure, no "every couple needs one."

Some couples genuinely love them. Some couples find them awkward and skip them entirely. Both are valid.

If you do want one, here’s what we’d actually do together: meet up somewhere that means something to you (or somewhere we both think will photograph well), spend an hour or two being a normal couple in front of a camera, and let us catch the way your hand finds theirs without thinking about it. The forehead kisses between sips. The inside jokes. The quiet “holy crap, this is real” looks you thought nobody else noticed.

It’s a low-stakes way to practice being photographed before the wedding day, where the stakes feel higher. By the time we get to your wedding, you’ll already know what we’re like to work with — and we’ll already know how the two of you connect.

Great if it sounds fun. Totally fine if it doesn’t.

• Sessions run 1–2 hours depending on location and pacing

• Digital images with print rights, no nickel-and-diming

• Sessions are $500–$1,000 + tax, OR included free with our Adventure and Expedition wedding packages

Common questions about our engagement sessions

Do we have to do an engagement session?

No. Engagement sessions are completely optional. If they sound fun, great. If they sound like a chore, skip it — your wedding day photos won’t be worse for it.

Why would we do one?

The most useful reason: practice. If you’re camera-shy or have never been professionally photographed, an engagement session is a low-stakes way to figure out how you want to be photographed before the actual wedding day. We’ll learn how you connect, you’ll learn what we’re like to work with, and the wedding day feels like working with people you already know.

How long is a session and where do we go?

Sessions run 1–2 hours. Location is your call — somewhere meaningful (where you got engaged, your favorite trail, your apartment), somewhere we both think will photograph well, or somewhere we suggest based on what you’re looking for. We’ve shot engagement sessions everywhere from downtown Seattle to remote Olympic Peninsula beaches.
