Helpful Hints: 7 Steps to a Winning Wedding Toast | The Weducation Series

As a member of the bridal party, one of the most intimidating parts of your job can be the wedding toast.

Not only is it hard to speak in front of others, but to try to sum up a friendship in a way that is both sweet and funny can be a lot of pressure. And where do you start?

A few things to keep in mind:

Keep it short. People don’t need a life history of your friendship.

Keep it clean. They will likely have coworkers, grandparents, friends of their parents, and children among their guests. Don’t embarrass them.

Don’t drink a lot before your wedding toast.  Yeah. Just don’t.

Have your wedding toast written down, on paper. While it’s great to try to wing it, or have it on your phone, neither of those things work out very well in the end. Trust us.

If you don’t feel comfortable doing a wedding toast, be honest. It’s better to not do it then to resent having to do it.

Ok, now that you’re ready to write your wedding toast, we have a simple 7 step prompt to help you write a winner.

1. Who? Who are you, and who are you to the bride or groom?

2. Where? Where did you meet, and how do you know the amazing couple?

3. What? What do they mean to you?

4. How? How have they touched your life?

5. When? When did you realize this was going to be “The One” for the bride or groom?

6. Why? Why do you know they are going to have the most amazing marriage ever?

7. What? What is your wish for their future?

That’s it! Do you think we missed any key elements to a killer wedding toast? Leave us a comment below!
