Our Wedding Posing Philosophy

How our approach helps you feel confident, connected, and completely yourself in front of the camera.

If we had a dollar for every time a couple said,
“We’re super awkward in front of the camera…”
…well, we could probably fund your flower budget. 😉

The truth is — most people feel that way.
You’re not models. You’re not used to having a camera following you around. And chances are, this might be the first time you’ve ever had professional photos taken together.

But here’s the good news: you don’t have to know what to do.
That’s our job — and we promise, you’re not too awkward, too quiet, too silly, or too unsure for us.

Because at GSquared Weddings, our posing strategy isn’t really about posing at all.
It’s about guiding you into moments where you can just be together — so we can capture you honestly, beautifully, and fully as you are.

💡 We Don’t Just Pose You — We Prompt You

Think of our process as a conversation, not a choreographed routine.

Instead of barking out “Laugh! Smile more!”
we’ll say things like:

✨ “Can you walk hand-in-hand and tell each other about your first date?”
✨ “Whisper your favorite thing about them in their ear — but in your creepiest voice.”
✨ “Hold them like it’s the last moment before they walk away for a week.”

These prompts are rooted in connection, movement, and emotion.
They’re designed to draw out laughter, real smiles, quiet stillness, and everything in between — without you ever having to think about what your hands are doing or how your jawline looks.

🤍 Our Approach Creates Real Moments

We believe the best photos aren’t the ones where everything looks perfect.
They’re the ones where you can look back and say:
“That’s exactly how it felt.”

When we guide you into a moment, we’re not looking for the pose.
We’re looking for the flicker of emotion that comes just after — the crinkle in your nose when you laugh, the way your shoulders soften when you exhale, the split-second before the kiss.

That’s where the magic lives.

😅 Not Comfortable in Front of the Camera? Perfect.

If you’ve ever said:

  • “We’re not photogenic.”
  • “I never know what to do with my face.”
  • “Can you just Photoshop me to look less awkward?”

…we hear you. And also? You’re our kind of people.

Because you don’t have to show up perfect. You just have to show up as you are.
And we’ll take it from there.

We know how to work with:

  • Nervous energy
  • Stiff hands
  • Shy personalities
  • Big emotions
  • Fidgeting (honestly, it’s kind of adorable)

We gently direct you when you need it — and step back when we feel a moment unfolding naturally. It’s a dance we’ve learned well.

💬 What Our Couples Say

Here are just a few of the real things our clients have told us about their experience:

“I thought I’d feel awkward, but Kate and Josh made us feel like ourselves. We forgot the camera was even there.”
“It felt like we were just on a date — not in the middle of a photo session.”
“They gave us just enough direction to feel confident, but never made it feel posed.”
“The laughs in our photos are real. The tears are real. And I wouldn’t want it any other way.”

📸 Our Goal? To Make You Feel:

  • Relaxed, not stiff
  • Beautiful, not forced
  • Connected, not posed
  • Seen, not filtered
  • Heard, not just directed

When you look back at your gallery, we want you to say:
“That’s so us.”
And feel it in your bones.

💞 How We Adjust Our Approach for Every Couple

We don’t use a one-size-fits-all posing system.

Our process is flexible because you’re unique.
Maybe you’re more touchy and affectionate. Maybe you’re goofy and sarcastic. Maybe you’re deeply emotional and quiet.

We observe. We listen. We watch for the way you naturally move together.
And then we build the session around that — not just what will “look good.”

We also know when to:

  • Take a moment to pause if you’re overwhelmed
  • Crank up the music for a little dance break
  • Give you space to just be

Our job is to create a safe, encouraging space where the real you gets to show up — and be beautifully documented.

🕊️ Posing On Your Wedding Day

Wedding days are different than engagement sessions — but the vibe is super similar. Wedding days are MUCH less contrived and more filled with emotions.

During portraits, we’ll help you settle into each other. We’ll guide the wedding party and family so you don’t have to. And during the day, we’ll float between giving direction and disappearing quietly into the background.

We’ll capture:

  • The quiet hand squeezes
  • The deep exhales
  • The happy tears
  • The in-between glances
  • And the golden light where everything feels still for a second

And if you’re worried about posing when emotions take over? Don’t be.
We know how to work with real feelings. In fact, we love them.

✨ You Don’t Have to Be a Model. You Just Have to Be You.

So if you’re nervous about being in front of the camera, here’s what we want you to know:

📸 We’ve got you.
We’ll guide you gently.
We’ll make it fun.
We’ll give you space.
And we’ll capture you in a way that feels true.

Because you’re not meant to be someone else in your wedding photos.
You’re meant to be you.
And we think that’s more than enough.

Frequently Asked Questions About Our Wedding Posing Approach

What if we’re terrible at posing and always look stiff in photos?

That’s actually who we work with best. Couples who feel natural in front of cameras are rare – most people feel awkward, and we’ve built our whole approach around that reality. We use prompts instead of poses: small activities, movements, and moments that give you something to do together so you stop thinking about the camera. By the time the good photos happen, most couples have forgotten we’re there.

How long do portrait sessions typically take on a wedding day?

We build 20-30 minutes for couples portraits into your timeline, plus additional time for wedding party photos and family formals if needed. We work efficiently, which means you’re not standing in a field for an hour – but we also don’t rush past the quiet moments that make the best photos. If you want more portrait time (a longer golden hour session, a specific location), we plan for it in the timeline conversation we have before your day.

Do you do engagement sessions, and does it help with wedding day comfort?

Yes, and yes – dramatically. An engagement session before your wedding gives you a chance to experience our process without the pressure of the day itself. You learn what our prompts feel like, what “look at each other” actually means in practice, and how to settle into being photographed together. Couples who’ve done engagement sessions with us consistently say portrait time on their wedding day felt significantly easier and more relaxed. We recommend it to almost everyone.
