5 Beautiful Engagement Session Locations in Western WA

It’s engagement session season and we can’t wait to adventure with all of our amazing couples for their engagement photos this year. Many of our couples ask us for location suggestions and our favorite spots to shoot.

Our engagement session guide talks about location ideas in depth, but I wanted to list them 5 of our favorite engagement session locations here for an easy list of our top spots. The guide also gives you tips for clothing, jewelry, photo sessions with pets and so much more.

Our Top 5 Engagement Session Locations

Deception Pass

Visit the Deception Pass information page.

This is the absolute top of our list for engagement photos. With Deception Pass park, there are so many locations at your fingertips, and Bowman Bay and Rosario Beach (& lookout) are nearby. With water, trees, and views this is perfect for a session any time of year … but be prepared, if it’s summer, we’re going to ask you to stand in the water.

This is our most chosen engagement session location, because of variety and distance.

Best Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter

Dungeness Wildlife Refuge

Visit the Dungeness Wildlife Refuge information page.

If you don’t mind traveling a bit, we don’t either. Dungeness has a beautiful horizon line for early morning or sunset sessions in the summer, tall beach grass, driftwood and forest.

Best Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall

Gold Creek Pond

Visit the Gold Creek Pond information page.

This picturesque location is easy access off of i-90, but that can also be it’s downfall. It’s heavily trafficked, so we don’t recommend this spot for weekend sessions. This spot is easier in the late spring to early fall, as the snow pack makes it a hike back from the road in the winter.

This is our second most chosen engagement photo spot, because everyone loves that amazing reflection!

Best Seasons: Late Spring, Summer, Early Fall

Washington Arboretum

Visit the Washington Arboretum information page.

This one makes the list because of the variety. It’s another easily accessible spot, and even has beautiful options in the winter. Trees, flowers, waterfront, bridges, and reflective ponds, and even a gorgeous city viewpoint at the far end of the park, it can really bring a lot of variety to your engagement photos.

This is our third most chosen engagement session location, because of it’s central location to most of our clients.

Best Seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter

Franklin Falls

Visit the Franklin Falls information page.

If you’re ready for a mild hike to get to a gorgeous waterfall (and yes, you can swim/go in the water here), and fight the crowds for your engagement session, this can be so worthwhile. This is an afternoon session location, as the tree line can create shade early in the day and it can take up to an hour to hike in. Make sure you wear hiking shows and pack all supplies into a backpack, the last path down to the falls can be slippery and is very narrow.

Best Seasons: Spring, Summer

BONUS LOCATION: Rattlesnake Lake (not Ledge)

Visit the Rattlesnake Lake information page.

This spot is amazing when the water level is low, and it becomes a lake of tree stumps. This location is best in early morning or sunset. It can be highly trafficked, so we recommend weekday sessions. Trees, water, stumps, rocks – this location is magical PNW goodness. We will not do Rattlesnake Ledge hike (there are better spots with less traffic and a similar view), so the Lake itself is our spot.

Best Season: Late Spring or Summer.

How long have you been a Snohomish Wedding Photographer?

Kate has been photographing since 1997 and Josh started in 2011. We started photographing weddings together then.

Josh and Kate of GSquared Weddings have photographed over 643 weddings together across more than 15 years — specifically in the Seattle and Snohomish County area. That’s not a flex for its own sake. It means that when your timeline runs 20 minutes late, when the clouds roll in over your outdoor ceremony, or when your reception venue is lit exclusively by Edison bulbs and bad overhead lighting, we’ve been there. Hundreds of times. And we know exactly what to do.

As a husband and wife team, we also bring something no two-photographer strangers can replicate — we communicate without words, we read a room together, and we move through your day as a unit. A Snohomish wedding photographer with genuine field experience doesn’t just take better photos — they protect your entire day experience. That’s what 643+ weddings actually buys you.

How do I know GSquared Weddings is the right Snohomish wedding photography team for us?

Honestly? You’ll know pretty fast. If you read through our work and our words and thought these people get it — trust that instinct.

We’re built for couples who want their day to feel like themselves, not a performance. Couples who want a team that genuinely shows up — not just with cameras, but as timeline wranglers, veil fixers, chaos calm-ers, and two people who will absolutely tear up at your first look. We’ve spent 15 years and 643+ weddings earning the trust of couples across Seattle and Snohomish County, and our approach has never changed: protect your vision, protect your experience, and keep your messy, beautiful, real love story safe.

If you’re looking for heavily staged, ultra-polished, everybody-stand-still photography — we’re probably not your people, and we’ll tell you that honestly. But if you want someone to be there for all of it, exactly as it happens? That’s exactly what we do.

What is your photography style, and will my Snohomish wedding photos look natural or overly edited?

At GSquared Weddings, our photography style is rooted in one core belief: real is always better than perfect. We shoot in a documentary-editorial style — meaning we’re capturing what’s actually happening, not directing a magazine spread. Candid tears, windblown hair, belly laughs mid-vow, the flower girl losing it in the corner — that’s what we’re after.

Our editing is clean, timeless, and true to life. We don’t chase trendy presets or heavy filters that will feel dated in five years. What you see in our galleries is what actually happened that day — the light, the color, the emotion — preserved honestly. Your Snohomish wedding photos will look like you, not like a template.
