Marionfield Farm Wedding Guide

Marionfield Farm Wedding venue, from a photographer’s perspective.

Marionfield Farm is a historic barn wedding venue in Arlington, Washington — in northern Snohomish County, just minutes from downtown Arlington. This is one of our absolute favorite venues in the county, and not in small part because of the owner, John, and his staff. Of course, the barn interior lights that remind us a bit of the Hogwarts Great Hall is a nerdy bonus that gets us every time.

The property was homesteaded in 1883, making it one of the oldest farms in the county, and it’s still an operating hay farm today. The dairy barn was constructed in 1903 and is designated as a Washington State Historic Building. It has been elegantly renovated to highlight the original architecture while adding modern event infrastructure. The venue overlooks 50 acres of serene farmland and includes indoor and outdoor spaces, a bridal cottage, an elegant bar, tables, chairs, lounge spaces, and 2-3 support staff for your wedding day. Capacity is 165 guests. And, a hidden feature of this venue: it has 2 (yes two), sunsets. I’m not joking – just ask John about it during your tour!

We’re Kate and Josh of GSquared Weddings, and we’ve photographed more than 20 weddings at Marionfield Farm. With 640+ weddings and 15+ years of experience across 100+ venues in Snohomish County and the Seattle area, we know exactly how this venue photographs in every season, every weather condition, and every light scenario. This guide is from our perspective because of the weddings we’ve done there.

What Is Marionfield Farm Like for a Wedding?

Marionfield is the rare venue where the word “historic” actually means something. The barn is genuinely from 1903. The renovations were designed to showcase the structural intervention elements without detracting from the original architecture — you can see where the old meets the new, and both are better for it. The venue is run, as we mentioned, by John who reviews consistently describe as one of the most attentive, detail-oriented, and genuinely caring venue owners in the region – and they’re not wrong. He has a truly amazing heart and seems to be able to anticipate needs far before they’re expressed.

The layout includes the renovated barn for indoor ceremony/reception (with elegant pendant lighting, dimmable lights, ADA accessibility, and an upstairs loft), an outdoor plaza for ceremonies and cocktail hour overlooking the 50-acre hay field, a bridal cottage with full kitchen, a separate groom’s space, and the bar area with commercial refrigeration, adjustable bar, menu boards, and display cabinetry. The food set-out space is separate from the bar — a practical detail that improves guest flow.

Weddings run April through October. The venue provides 2-3 staff who handle table and chair placement, reception setup, table busing, bar stocking, lighting, parking assistance, pack-out assistance, and breakdown/cleaning. That level of included staffing is uncommon at this price point and dramatically reduces the logistical burden on your coordinator. They also have their system down to a science. No venue does a room flip quite like Marionfield. It’s seamless and smooth, and they have attention to detail that a lot of venues miss on.

Where Is Marionfield Farm Located?

Marionfield Farm is located at Near Downtown Arlington, WA (exact address provided upon booking). It’s less than 10 minutes off the main road but makes you feel like you’ve escaped to your own country hideaway. You can check out their website & inquire about a tour here – and then don’t forget to download our 45 questions to ask when touring a wedding venue guide.

Is Marionfield Farm a Good Venue for Wedding Photos?

Marionfield Farm’s photography advantage is the contrast between intimate barn architecture and expansive pastoral views. Inside the barn, the pendant lighting creates warm, moody pools of light that work beautifully for ceremony and reception images — the dimmable lights let us adjust the ambiance throughout the day, and the high ceilings give interior shots a sense of scale. The upstairs loft provides an elevated perspective for ceremony coverage and creative portraits. Our favorite look inside the barn is when all the lights are dimmed or off, aside from the pendants.

Outside, the 50-acre hay field is a portrait environment that most venues simply cannot offer. The scale of the open field creates a sense of space and freedom in portrait images, and during golden hour, the low-angle light across the hay field produces the kind of warm, horizontal light that makes portraits glow. The bridal cottage provides a clean, bright getting-ready environment with its own aesthetic (you can see photos of that space above). We also tend to prefer to have the guys get ready out in the white lounge area or the loft where the lighting is better than the area above the stairs.

The venue’s location at the end of a winding country road adds to the seclusion — there’s no visual clutter, no adjacent properties breaking the frame. When we photograph here, every direction offers a clean, intentional backdrop.

One of the things we like to do when we photograph at Marionfield is to look for a new place to photograph that we’ve not tried before: a different angle by the fence-line, a new spot in the field, or around the barn itself.

What Is the Rain Plan at Marionfield Farm?

Marionfield’s barn is a genuine indoor venue — not a backup rain plan. If weather moves your ceremony inside, the barn with its pendant lighting, warm wood finishes, and historic character produces a ceremony environment that is arguably more atmospheric than the outdoor option. The barn accommodates the full capacity of 165 guests for both ceremony and reception.

The outdoor plaza ceremony space is uncovered, so rain means moving indoors. But John and his team manage this transition smoothly — they’ve done it many times and the barn is always ready as a ceremony space. Reviews consistently note that the indoor experience feels intentional and complete, not like a compromise – and we agree. A lot of couples worry about the transition time, but there’s no need. The venue offers a covered cocktail hour area, and the team at Marionfield can execute a room flip smoothly and with great attention to detail – it won’t even feel like the same room.

What Does Marionfield Farm Include in the Wedding Rental?

Both indoor and outdoor spaces for the full day. 2-3 staff for table/chair placement, setup, table busing, bar stocking (not serving), lighting, parking assistance, and breakdown/cleaning. Tables, chairs, lounge spaces, elegant bar with commercial refrigeration. Bridal cottage with private restroom. Groom’s space. ADA accessibility. Sound system option available as an add-on. Optional tabletop settings package (dinner and dessert plates, silverware, water goblets, dessert risers, wood lanterns, chargers, votive candles). Optional beverage service (water carafes, fruit-infused water station). Optional hot spiced cider bar in September/October ($250 – this is always worth it!).

What’s NOT included: Catering (select from pre-approved list or by approval). Bartending (from pre-approved list). All food and beverage consumables. Music/DJ. General decorating. Pack-out of your personal items. Event insurance ($1,000,000 required). No fireworks or flames. Pets not allowed unless special arrangements.

How Much Does a Wedding at Marionfield Farm Cost?

Marionfield Farm pricing for 2026/2027 is approximately $5,900 for Saturdays and $5,500 for Fridays and Sundays, with a limit of 165 guests. This is notably competitive given the level of included staffing and amenities.

From a photography perspective: Venues that include furniture, staffing support, and coordination in the rental tend to produce more consistent, visually cohesive wedding galleries because the design elements are pre-coordinated and the day runs smoother logistically. This can mean your photos are going to look amazing in a wedding album or as a series of prints, and not just one-by-one.

What Should Vendors and Photographers Know About Working at Marionfield Farm?

Marionfield uses a pre-approved caterer list, though approval for outside caterers is possible. Bartending must be from the pre-approved list, and no hard alcohol or hard ciders are allowed. Insurance from both caterers and bartenders is required. The venue provides power for sound systems, and a house sound system with wireless mics is available as an add-on.

For photographers: the barn interior lighting is warm but can be dim — your photographer should be comfortable with lower-light reception environments. The dimmable lights are a significant advantage because they can be adjusted to balance ambiance with photography needs. The outdoor ceremony on the plaza faces the hay field, so afternoon ceremonies have the sun behind the guests (ideal — it means the couple’s faces are in open shade, not squinting). The field behind the venue is accessible for portraits and golden hour is spectacular here (and there are 2 sunsets, meaning you can work multiple angles in that gorgeous light … or if you miss the first one, you’ve always got the second).

The barn’s ceremony-to-reception flip happens seamlessly because John’s team removes and rearranges tables quickly — multiple reviews note they didn’t even notice the transition happening (we have watched this go down several times just in awe of the system they have – it’s like watching a ballet).

Who Is Marionfield Farm the Right Venue For?

Couples who want a genuine historic barn wedding with an owner who treats your day as personally as you do. John’s involvement level is unusual — he’s a detail-oriented project manager who also happens to genuinely care about every couple’s experience. If you value a venue owner who gives honest, thoughtful advice, responds quickly, and provides a level of staffing support that goes beyond what the price suggests, Marionfield is hard to beat. He and his team treat you like people who matter, not dollar signs (this is important to us – we don’t like to work with or recommend businesses that take that approach).

It’s particularly strong for couples who want rustic elegance without the word feeling like a Pinterest cliché — the historic authenticity here is real. The 50-acre farmland setting creates a destination feel despite being minutes from downtown Arlington.

It may not be the right fit if: your guest list exceeds 165; you need a summer-only or winter venue (April-October only); you want open flames or fireworks; if hard alcohol is important to you (the road to the venue makes this a huge liability for everyone involved); or the Arlington location is too far north for your guest list (it’s about 45-60 minutes north of Seattle).

Why Do Couples Hire GSquared Weddings to Photograph Their Marionfield Farm Wedding?

Because we’ve done this more than 20 times at this specific venue. We know the light, the layout, the timeline implications, and the specific portrait opportunities that Marionfield Farm offers. Venue-specific experience means your wedding day runs smoother, your timeline is built on reality rather than guesswork, and your gallery reflects a photographer who knew exactly what to do at every moment.

We’re a two-photographer team (Kate and Josh), which means we’re covering two perspectives simultaneously throughout the day. Kate can photograph the first dance from downstairs while Josh works from the loft, one of us can get photos of your friends dancing while the other can go out and get photos of your family playing a very competitive game of cornhole.

Our editing approach — Color Integrity — means your photos will look like your day actually looked. The real colors of the venue, the real tones of the light, the real texture of the environment. We don’t apply batch presets that shift everything toward a trendy tone. Every image is individually touched three times. Your skin tone is your identity, not a canvas for a filter.

Also, we offer an exclusive discount for Marionfield Farm Couples – and we’d love to talk to you about your Marionfield Farm wedding.

SNOHOMISH WASHINGTON
OPEN TO TRAVEL WITHIN THE UNITED STATES

How long have you been a Snohomish Wedding Photographer?

Kate has been photographing since 1997 and Josh started in 2011. We started photographing weddings together then.

Josh and Kate of GSquared Weddings have photographed over 643 weddings together across more than 15 years — specifically in the Seattle and Snohomish County area. That’s not a flex for its own sake. It means that when your timeline runs 20 minutes late, when the clouds roll in over your outdoor ceremony, or when your reception venue is lit exclusively by Edison bulbs and bad overhead lighting, we’ve been there. Hundreds of times. And we know exactly what to do.

As a husband and wife team, we also bring something no two-photographer strangers can replicate — we communicate without words, we read a room together, and we move through your day as a unit. A Snohomish wedding photographer with genuine field experience doesn’t just take better photos — they protect your entire day experience. That’s what 643+ weddings actually buys you.

How do I know GSquared Weddings is the right Snohomish wedding photography team for us?

Honestly? You’ll know pretty fast. If you read through our work and our words and thought these people get it — trust that instinct.

We’re built for couples who want their day to feel like themselves, not a performance. Couples who want a team that genuinely shows up — not just with cameras, but as timeline wranglers, veil fixers, chaos calm-ers, and two people who will absolutely tear up at your first look. We’ve spent 15 years and 643+ weddings earning the trust of couples across Seattle and Snohomish County, and our approach has never changed: protect your vision, protect your experience, and keep your messy, beautiful, real love story safe.

If you’re looking for heavily staged, ultra-polished, everybody-stand-still photography — we’re probably not your people, and we’ll tell you that honestly. But if you want someone to be there for all of it, exactly as it happens? That’s exactly what we do.

What is your photography style, and will my Snohomish wedding photos look natural or overly edited?

At GSquared Weddings, our photography style is rooted in one core belief: real is always better than perfect. We shoot in a documentary-editorial style — meaning we’re capturing what’s actually happening, not directing a magazine spread. Candid tears, windblown hair, belly laughs mid-vow, the flower girl losing it in the corner — that’s what we’re after.

Our editing is clean, timeless, and true to life. We don’t chase trendy presets or heavy filters that will feel dated in five years. What you see in our galleries is what actually happened that day — the light, the color, the emotion — preserved honestly. Your Snohomish wedding photos will look like you, not like a template.

What does wedding photography cost in Snohomish County?

Wedding photography in Snohomish County typically ranges from $3,000 to $10,000+ for full-day coverage in 2026. Most couples working with an experienced, full-time professional invest between $4,500 and $8,000. Pricing depends on hours of coverage, number of photographers, experience level, editing style, and deliverables. Washington state sales tax of approximately 8.5–10.5% also applies.

GSquared starts at $4500 for a 9 hour, two photographer, all digital images with print rights package. No hidden charges, no sacrificing parts of your wedding day because of budget.
